Earlier this month I finished a website for a musician Andrew Swift. The design was made by “Omi Design”, and was coded by yours truly. Like all websites I build it was built on wordpress for a number of reason. That not overly interesting or unique, however what was interesting was to see the traffic sources. Being a musician that is not in a niche like a “corporate events” or “wedding band” Search Engine won’t drive a lot of traffic. Because lets be honest, no one is Googling Andrew Swift. Where the traffic was coming from was actually a lot of social networks. The two outstanding Social Networks to stand out were Facebook & Soundcloud. I don’t think anyone is surprised to see that facebook was the number one traffic referee. The one that grabbed my attention was SoundClound. For those of you who haven’t seen Sound Cloud yet its a social network for musicians, to share their music, and network with other musicians. SoundClound also play nicely with other social networks such as Facebook & Twitter. Although I assume not everyone that came from SoundCloud just stumbled upon his profile. I do think that people may have come from a facebook or a twitter only to then proceed to SoundCloud, I do think it’s food for thought. maybe this more niche social networks are something that will become more common in the future and even become major traffic referee’s.

I Poked Till I Was Sore.Tweet
I actually got more than a few pokes back, I guess I’m not that hard on they eyes after all . Within the first couple of hours I had four poke backs, I’m surprised also. So at that moment the thought occurred to me what can I do to take this to the next level? Duh , clearly I have to see if I can get poke wars going. So of the four pokes I received I got two “poke wars” going. Feeling like God himself on my 50% poke war ratio, I realized my work was not done. I know what you’re all thinking, Michael Ryan your insane, it cannot be done. Well I certainty showed you. With the adrenaline pumping I decided to Send all 4 a friend request. What did I learn from this ? Well I learned if you want a random attractive girl to add you, it all about what I’m calling the “pre-friend poke”. Success 100% accepted, better yet not one of those awkward public “Do I know you?” wall posts. So what did we learn today kiddies ? always “pre-friend poke” when trying to get a hot girl to add you. For those who are dying to say “ScreenShot or it didn’t happen” here you go :
Arj Barker 2011Tweet
Just last week I was lucky enough to see Arj Barker as part of the Melbourne 2011 Comedy Festival. Just a short post saying I recommend anyone who can, GO SEE HIM. I’ve have all his DVD’s (Thank to The PirateBay), but what was great was that it was an entirely new set. Arj’s set most of which focused specifically on Australia & Australian Culture. So to all the fans out there that may miss it here is a small clip of the new set enjoy
The Poke ExperimentTweet
A small group of friends and I have started a small experiment . This is best described as a Joke / Genius / Social Media Experiment. The title of the post alone is fairly self explanatory to anyone who has used a computer in the last 3 – 4 years. However for those who are a little less facebook inclined here’s a summary of what the “poke button” is. The poke button is nothing more than a flirt button, a way of on facebook saying “Hello there, I think your attractive and I’d love to have sex with you.” What we are doing is trying to work out an average of how many people will poke back, this is gonna be golden. Now every experiment needs rules right ? So the rules of the experiment are.
- The Person Must Be of The opposite sex. ( otherwise the chances kinda drop right ?)
- The Maximum People that can be Poked is 15.
- The Person Must Be Single.
- The Person can not have an age gap of more than 3 years (no one needs jail time.)
I will make updates as this progresses. whats the average “poke back” for males around the age of 19 or 20. I hope this is gonna be as epic as I think it will.
